Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at 1.5 km southeast of Qingshan village of Eryuan County (100o14’E-25 o 52’N). It was named by the First Yunnan regional Geological Survey in 1973, and was formally published by Zhang Yuanzhi et al. in Yunnan Lithostratigraphy in 1998.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. It is a set of carbonate rock, mainly composed of dark-gray to grayish medium- to thick-bedded with thin-bedded limestone in the lower, light grayish massive limestone in the middle and medium- to thick-bedded limestone with breccia in the upper. The thickness is 384-744 m, locally reaches to 1548 m.

Lower contact

Disconformable contact to the underlying Silurian Kanglong Fm

Fossils

The formation yields abundant Corals Favosites sp. Tryplasma hercynica, Tabularia turieensis, Pseudochonophyllum sp. Pseudamplexus fasucularis, Loyolophyllum cerioides; Stromatoporoids Amphipora angusta, Clathrodixtyon simplex; and Brachiopods, bryozoans, bivalves, etc..


Age 

middle Early Devonian. But regional chart and being overlain by Lianhuaqu Fm implies earliest Devonian
